Upon meeting Sion, Dusk immediately sensed his potential for great things... and his potential for disaster. As such, she's quite protective, especially when it comes to protecting Sion from his own potentially dangerous tendencies. She enjoys taking the occasional moment to relax and do nothing for a while, and is not above simply sitting on Sion to make sure he rests. Dusk is named for Sion's favorite time of day, when the world is dyed red by the setting sun, erasing all the sorrow and ugliness of the day.

Sion woke up one morning to find himself in possession of a mysterious egg. He isn't sure where it came from, but Dusk insisted he hold on to it... As it turned out, the egg hatched into a Snivy! Sion was thinking aloud while trying to pick a name for him, when the Snivy apparently took a liking to the word "flourish". No one's sure why, but it certainly fits him. Flourish is fairly easy-going, but definitely has a competitive streak, which may sometimes crop up at less than appropriate times.

After hearing so much about catching and training pokémon to battle and how it's not only common but encouraged here, Sion finally decided he really needed to find out some answers through first-hand experience. He ended up getting Fen. A slightly flighty Mareep with an attitude, Fen's reaction to Sion questioning if he really wanted to come along after catching him was to suggest Sion was absurd for even asking. Sion's not sure if this is reassuring, but Fen- or Sparky as Sion sometimes calls him when he's being obnoxious- seems to be here to stay. Fen's name comes from the word for a type of meadow where one might find grazing animals such as sheep.

After Sion teased Ryner about his pile of pokémon eggs, Ryner thrust one of Jiji and Elfy's into his hands and told him to try taking care of it. Upon hatching, the Eevee took one look around, and promptly dove for cover in the first available hiding place- which happened to be Sion's hair, as it turned out. Jina is terribly shy and would often rather watch things from a safe place than join in. He only participates in training on occasion after a lot of convincing and reassurance. Or food. As a Glaceon, Jina is more confident, though still a bit shy. Since he's too big to ride on Sion's shoulders and hide in his hair, he'll stick close to Dusk or Fio if he's uncertain about something. Sion named Jina after Jiji- the Umbreon who fathered him- and Ryner, to whom said Umbreon belongs.

After obtaining the Zephyr Badge, Sion reasoned it'd be a good idea to actually have a flying-type for whenever he obtained the Fly HM. So he went out one morning and caught one. Lofty is fairly hot-headed, at least for a Pidgey. She's quick to rush into the thick of things, whether in battles or otherwise. Despite this, however, she's actually quite clever, and heaven help anyone who gets on her bad side... Sion chose Lofty's name because it seemed appropriate, and because the image of soaring loftily in the sky appealed to him.

While Sion was out finding a Pidgey to catch, Flourish took it upon himself to "train" by picking a fight with anything in sight. Which as it turned out happened to be a poor hapless Growlithe. Sion initially caught Fio intending to just take him to the Pokémon Center, or at least give him a potion or two, but the easygoing Growlithe took an almost immediate liking to him and stuck around. Fio's now working on becoming something of Sion's self-proclaimed protector, after Dusk, and Sion can't help being fond of his gentle, loyal nature. Fio is named after Fiole, Sion's former secretary and friend who was murdered by one of the Roland nobles.

One of the pokémon Sion inherited from Ferris when she vanished from Johto. Iris is a spunky little thing, typically cheerful but not to be crossed when angered. Since she was incredibly fond and protective of Ferris, Sion takes care to try to keep her from getting too worried about it, usually by letting her play with Sion the Feebas Milotic. Iris was named by Ferris after her energetic little sister.

One of the pokémon Sion inherited from Ferris when she vanished from Johto. He's still not sure what to think of the fact that Ferris named it after him. Fortunately, Sion the Feebas (or Sea as his name gets shortened to to avoid confusion) is fairly competent. So far as Feebas go. When he reached Goldenrod City, Sion purchased a Prism Scale so that Sea could evolve. Because he felt sorry for the poor thing being left so powerless. Sion was named by Ferris after Sion, because she's terrible like that.

One of the pokémon Sion inherited from Ferris when she vanished from Johto. Sion really rather hopes this one doesn't live up to his namesake. True to his ghostly nature, though, Lucile seems to be fond of hanging around and generally being a creeper. Needless to say, Sion doesn't always let him on his own out much. Lucile was named by Ferris after her older brother. Who is also a creeper.

One of the pair of Nidoran Sion caught because he decided to get another, and they made such a cute pair... That, and, well, because he could. Lord loves a challenge, especially one that comes in the form of a good fight. Fortunately, Lady harbors similar sentiments, thus making them a well-matched pair who can and will duke it out to their hearts' delight. Though he's not overly rash, Lord sees no problem simply striding into the thick of things, even if it means bowling over anything in his way. Sion named Lord and Lady as a pair, both because of their later evolutions' names, and because, well, it worked.

While Sion and Ryner made their way toward Ecruteak during the swarms, one of the wild Shinx took an interest in Sion. Or more specifically, his long hair, that was apparently just the perfect length for swiping and pouncing at. After a day or two of attempting to ignore this, Sion finally caught the offender, who now couldn't be happier at being able to now chase Sion's braid whenever she pleases. Bright is generally fairly easygoing, and quite tireless in the endeavors that fascinate her, sometimes to the point of not paying much mind to anything else. Never mind that no one else quite sees the point to the subjects of her bursts of enthusiasm... Bright is named for being an energetic electric type, and because Sion likes positive-feeling names like that.

Sion received this egg from the batch Yagyuu and Nero's pokémon produced. River is something of a prankster. She enjoys causing mischief, and is fairly indifferent to how it may inconvenience others. However that same oblivious innocence has a certain charm all its own, making it difficult to be too hard on her when there's no harm done. For whatever reason, Sea seems to have taken a liking to her. Sion named River for the serpents Roland's crest, which symbolize the great rivers that run through the country. ...even if she doesn't look so much like a snake anymore.

While training in the Dragon's Den, Sion couldn't help catching at least one of the dragons he encountered there. Percy is a bit hot-headed and fickle, but Sion hopes he can train him out of it. While evolving has done little to cool Percy's temperament, at least now he can fly rather than fall and crash into things. Percy's name is short for "perseverance".

Whisper really likes sitting on Sion's head. Really, really likes it. Which is how she ended up a part of his team in the first place. When not making a nest out of Sion's hair, Whisper likes to stick close, as she tends to get lonely if left to herself, though she does enjoy flying about at top speed. Sometimes she'll Sing Sion to sleep at night--the sooner he's asleep, the sooner she can nestle into his long, silky hair, after all. Whisper is named for the wispiness of her cloud-like wings, and her habit of humming and singing.

This Druddigon attacked Sion when he was out training while under the effects of mutations Team Rocket had released on Johto. Rather than risk being attacked again from behind as he tried to get out of the Dragon's Den, Sion caught it with the intention of healing it and eventually releasing it once things settled down... As it turned out, though she's still confused as to why she had wanted to attack Sion in the first place, the Druddigon was of the opinion that she'd been defeated and caught fair and square and therefore stayed as part of Sion's party. Ruby tends to be a bit on the impulsive side, often doing things without bothering to explain to anyone else (or even think them through) first. Which probably explains a lot about her initial encounter with Sion, really. Sion named Ruby for her red, rock-like head.

Shortly after emerging from the Diglett's Cave, Sion and Ryner ran into this Minccino, who quite promptly brushed them both down. And then promptly attached herself to Sion, apparently adoring his long, silver hair. Like all Minccino, Tassle loves to keep things clean and neat and tidy, although sometimes she gets a little too into it an accidentally makes a bigger mess in the process. But she makes sure to clean that up, too. Other than that, though, she's fairly easy-going. She also adores Sion and loves perching on his shoulder so that she can nestle into his hair. Tassle's name comes from "tassel", which is what her tail reminded Sion of when she was waving it in his face to brush him off.

Ryner bought this egg from Karkat and gave it to Sion for some reason. Which definitely had nothing to do with the fact that Sion's birthday would be coming up around this time of year. Warden is quite the tenacious little dragon, able to patiently sit and wait his turn... or stubbornly refuse to budge if he doesn't like something. He also has virtually no sense of humor, which naturally immediately made him a prime target for River's mischief, resulting in Sion largely training the two separately for now. Sion named Warden for his tenacious, no-nonsense personality.

Caught by Sion in the Bug-Catching Contest at National Park. Scamper tends to be rather sneaky, taking time to approach things in a way that lends itself to the result he wants. He can be prone to temperamental outbursts if things don't go his way, however, or if something unexpected throws off his plans. Scamper's name is descriptive of his tendency to skitter about to do things on his own when left to his own devices.

Realizing that his party needed some more balance, Sion bought this Riolu egg from Riku. Just is somewhat hot-headed, quick to rush into the thick of things, regardless of how much collateral damage he might cause in the process. He means well, though, and is highly dedicated to his trainer, even if he can be prone to being over-enthusiastic at times. Sion named Just in hopes of training the fighting type to live up to the name.

Scrappy evolved from the Nincada Sion caught in the Bug-Catching Contest at National Park, taking up residence in one of Sion's spare pokéballs and generally causing a good deal of initial confusion because Sion could have sworn he hadn't taken that many of his party out training that day. Despite apparently evolving from the quick-tempered Scamper, however, Scrappy doesn't really appear to do much of anything. At all. Mostly it just kind of sits there motionlessly, unless Sion gives it a direct order. Lucile seems to like it, though. Sion named Scrappy in an effort to find a name it would respond to that resembled Scamper, but eventually gave up thinking of better ideas when the Shedinja proved to be entirely indifferent to what it was called. Sion often refers to Scrappy as "he" as that's the gender of its Ninjask counterpart.

Intrigued by Zorua's ability, Sion bought this egg from Envy. True to its species, the zorua that hatched from it proved to be quite fond of assuming various illusions, especially copying Sion's appearance. Sable is a good, bold fighter, though he can have a bit of a short temper at times. Since evolving, he's grown even more fond of copying Sion, especially now that he has similarly long, flowing "hair". Sable is named for his black coloration.

Bought as an egg from Riku's sale of pokemon loaded with egg moves, Ash can pack a punch and knows it. He's had an attitude that borders on the insubordinate almost since the moment he hatched, and is a natural partner in crime for a prankster like River. Needless to say, Sion quickly singled him out for quite a bit of intensive one on one training... A chance encounter in the Ilex Forest and Sion wanting to round out his roster a bit more resulted in him catching a Roselia. Seren is fairly laid-back in her approach to most things, but she can be exceedingly particular on points she has a preference about. Her overall calm and ability to stun others into paralysis has made her useful when Sion's training some of the more ornery members of his team. Seren's name is short for "serenity", again referring to her almost serenely relaxed nature.

An egg Sion bought to bring more balance to his team by having a Rock-type. Along with Warden, Beryl brings some much-needed level headedness to the newer members of Sion's team. Between her calm and her alertness, she makes an excellent guard, and is generally easily relied upon to keep her head in most situations. Beryl is named for the green-colored gemstone, as Sion felt was appropriate for a green Rock-type.

A slowpoke Sion and Ryner encountered when investigating the Slowpoke Well, Ardent apparently took a liking to Sion right then and there. Unfortunately, her reaction was so slow that Sion never noticed, and was soon long gone to Goldenrod and on to the tournament in Kanto. Ardent, however, continued to slowly follow his trail, eventually arriving in Goldenrod a good month later.... as well as coincidentally at the same time Sion was returning from Kanto. She's stuck with him ever since. She's recently taken a liking to the King's Rock Sion bought for use at the tournament, though so far she hasn't seemed to want to do anything with it. She eventually figured out and expressed what she wanted it for, so with Ryner's help Sion evolved her into a Slowking. Ardent is named for her tenacity.

Hatched from an egg that mysteriously appeared amongst Sion's belongings one Christmas morning. Silver is fairly even-tempered, and thoroughly enjoys racing across the land, a combination of factors which makes her a near perfect mount. Much to Sion's delight, of course, though not that he'd ever admit it. He occasionally takes her out to go riding across the fields in Route 38, an experience they both enjoy. Silver is named for her pale blue-gray flames.

Ever since seeing Kato's out of control Hydreigon on the network, Sion's been curious about the species, so he picked up this egg from Cecil at the Breeder Con. As it turns out, Midnight is fairly level-headed... for the most part. She can be quick to get angry if something annoys her, usually expressing this by headbutting or biting. Sion is attempting to train her in a way that emphasizes the calm side of her demeanor. Sion named her Midnight because of her dark, blue and black coloring.

When Saber started giving him a hard time about never having bought eggs from her breeding center, Trapinch was the first he picked out, for being a ground type as well as not a species commonly seen. Once he hatched, Gambit proved to be just about the perfect deadpan prankster, seeming to take everything with perfect seriousness... Up until starting some grand mischief or another. Gambit was named for his mischievously poker-faced personality.

Sion caught a Clamperl while at Tohjo Falls because, well, he hadn't seen one before. Unfortunately for him, Nacre proved to have a bit of an attitude, occasionally provoking Sion's other pokémon with her snide remarks and making Sion wonder whether he really wanted to know what they were saying or not. Despite this, however, Nacre is fairly observant and sharp-minded, and therefore is at least decent in a fight. She just might take a little more training than most to get her attitude under control... "Nacre" is a name for mother-of-pearl, the substance found inside clam shells.

Sion couldn't just visit the Safari Zone without catching at least one unique new pokémon, which is how he ended up with a Braviary. Much to Sion's chagrin, however, August has proven to be quite the troublemaker, delighting in stirring things up and generally a mess of things. This has made him a natural partner/rival for Ash, which has led to Sion doing his best to keep the two from conspiring together... or at least being certain they know the consequences if they do. August's name was chosen in a similar manner to Lofty's, with Sion tending to associate flying types with high and regal ideals, and the fact that August does look the part, at least.

An egg Sion bought from the Breeding Center upon realizing his team had a sore lack of psychic-types. Valiant was raised to be a strong, sturdy fighter, and certainly has the personality to match. While he does still have some tendency to rush into things, he's quite determined and capable of holding his own. In short, he certainly seems to live up to his name. Sion picked the name Valiant as the ideal he was hoping to train him to be.

Ryner's Clefairy Rose, in her infinite wisdom, decided to give Sion a nice surprise of a new egg, seeing as she was buying one for Ryner already. Perhaps fortunately, Flash has indeed proven to be a good addition to the team. Calm and not easily upset, but still quite aware of his surroundings, Flash deals with the antics of some of the more mischievous types with a combination of tolerance and a quick warning spark before they can actually try anything. Like Silver, he's also proven to be an excellent mount, should Sion need to travel by land rather than Fly. Sion picked Flash's name while thinking about how electric attacks can resemble a flash of lightning.

Liddel was named because he mistook a comment Sion made when he hatched about a 'little' pokémon for a name.

Ryner gave Sion this egg from a batch his pokémon had produced, insisting that Sion help out and take one off his hands. And it definitely wasn't some sort of gift or anything, of course, that would be silly. Sion only put up a token protest. The Cleffa that hatched then proved to be fairy impetuous... and very fond of food. As a result, Lily quickly became quite fond indeed of Marian, much to the chagrin of Rose. When she's not eating, she's enthusiastically training, battling, playing, or whatever other task she's occupied with at the moment. Enthusiastically. Sion decided to continue the flower name theme started with Rose in picking Lily's name.

One of a pair of Goomies who became... rather attached to Sion during the swarm. After the pair refused to leave him alone, Sion eventually (and perhaps somewhat reluctantly) caught them, reasoning that if nothing else, being able to call them back to their balls if needed would at least mitigate the sheer mess they were making. Boo is the troublemaker of the duo, an inclination made worse by the influence of the likes of Ash and August. Though she stops short of being outright disobedient, she still likes to push boundaries and take orders or directions as literally and/or creatively as possible. If she and Lavender are causing a mess, it can be almost guaranteed it was Boo who instigated it. Since Sion and Ryner bought a house and some land for the pokémon to roam in, Boo is now only allowed indoors if she strictly behaves herself. Boo ended up named because she responded to the "Bloober" nickname the species was temporarily known by; Sion then shortened it to something that sounded halfway reasonable.

Lavender is definitely the more cooperative of the Goomy pair... But also the more unpredictable. While she's not in any sense malicious, she fails to see the problem with Boo's antics as often as not and happily joins in when it looks like fun. She's quite capable of entertaining herself when left to her own devices, however, and can now often be spotted happily dashing about Sion and Ryner's property. While Sion and Ryner were switching fliers on the way to Goldenrod, a Furfrou fell into Sion's lap. Rather literally, in fact. While he was clearly unharmed, the Furfrou seemed quite upset at the idea of being left alone in a strange place, so Sion took pity on him and took him with. Cloud is, overall, a fairly calm temperament. He's quick and eager to learn and do as he's told, whether it's a new battle strategy or fetching the paper. He can be a bit protective of his trainer at times, however, though it's unclear whether he was always that way or if he picked it up from others on Sion's team. Sion picked Cloud's name based on his shaggy white fur and the fact that he fell from the sky.

An inopportune gust of wind blew this poor lost Noibat right into Sion's hair, which she promptly got herself tangled in. Sion was forced to use a PokéBall to catch her before her frantic screeches ruptured his eardrums, but after she'd calmed down a bit she decided to stick around anyway. Antay tends to be curious and inquisitive, quick to investigate anything that catches her interest and just as quick to dash away to something else. She doesn't always pay as much attention to her surroundings as she ought to, however, and thus is sometimes prone to crashing into things in a moment of distraction... Antay's name is derived from "Ante", the name of a Roland magic spell that can temporarily silence sound waves.

Reasoning that Jiji, Jina, and Jiru could use the company of another eeveelution, Sion bought this egg. While typically calm, Mel has quite the competitive streak, and can rapidly go from placidly minding his own business to fiercely battling with everything he has at the drop of a hat. Thankfully, he still gets along well with Jina (who doesn't have an ounce of competitiveness in him) as well as enjoying fighting with Jiji (or, well, enjoying as long as he's winning, that is) so for the most part he's proven a good addition to the team. Mel is named for his mostly mellow temperament.

The other egg Sion bought, partly to add some balance to his team in the form of a Steel-type. For whatever reason, Temper tends not to associate much with the other pokémon, instead keeping to herself most of the time. Of course, this might also be partially due to her tendency to enjoy playing rather roughly, but whatever the reason, she's definitely a bit of a loner. Still, she's quite competent (and more than a little fierce) in battling. The name Temper comes from the term of the process used on steel to reduce brittleness.

A Sylveon summoned by Arceus itself in the wake of the chaos caused by Team Aqua and Team Magma. Gemma took an almost immediate liking to Sion's hardworking attitude, and quickly joined his team. If there's one thing true about Gemma, it's that she takes things very seriously. All the time. She has about as little sense of humor as Warden does, really, and even less when it comes to her own abilities and competence. Perhaps it's an effect of being created directly by Arceus, but Gemma knows she's strong and is proud of it. This does, on rare occasions, lead to some minor friction with Dusk, but as long as she remains loyal to Sion the Absol doesn't mind her. Too much, at least. Sion gave Gemma her name because her coloring reminded him of gemstones. And totally not because her personality reminded him of a certain individual back home or anything.

When the mystery egg he received on Christmas hatched, Sion had the first ever truly negative reaction to seeing a pokémon. While he was aware from his research that there was a sword pokémon, after all, he hadn't expected to be given one... Nor for the one he received to end up being black. Of course, as soon as he got over the shock, he immediately regretted it, especially as he saw how the already somewhat bashful ghost had taken his trainer's reaction to heart. As a result, Sion's taken considerable time and care in his training of Roland, having to genuinely work to gain the pokémon's trust and confidence while overcoming some of his own negative mental associations. It's been a long journey, but with time and care Roland has become a steadfast ally. Though still a bit on the shy, even nervous side, Roland can certainly pull is weight in a fight, and seems to have made his peace with getting off on the wrong foot with his trainer. Roland is the name of Sion's kingdom and homeland back in his own world, as well as, well, Sion has his reasons for the name.

When time warp shenanigans left both Sion and Ryner temporarily aged down to children, a stray fossil pokémon attacked. Worried that his newfound friend would be hurt, the young Sion screwed up his courage to try to chase the monster off, by throwing whatever items were at hand. As it happened, said items included some pokéballs, and the Aerodactyl was caught. Once she got over her confusion about the circumstances of and immediately following her capture, Wyverrock proved to be a fierce and cunning fighter. Almost ruthless, really. Though she obeys Sion, she does have a tendency to find ways to get what she wants anyway, and has generally proven that she nearly always needs some degree of supervision. Sion adamantly hopes to train her to be at least a little more tractable. Sion named Wyverrock while he was still deaged, his young self deciding that clearly she was a wyvern who was made of rocks.

A Tyrunt egg Cecil bullied talked Sion into buying. Whether this was truly a good purchase is debatable, as Cevey proved to be yet another fight-loving pokémon added to Sion's roster. On the other hand, given how many of Sion's other team members have similar attitudes, at least he's in good company. When he's not picking fights, Cevey likes butting into things, often rushing into any situation that looks interesting without any forethought. Some of the more mischievous members of Sion's team have taken advantage of this for practical jokes, though Cevey's started to get wise to that. Probably. Sion named Cevey after Cecil Harvey, who bred the egg, because fair's fair.

An egg that mysteriously appeared after the ghostly shenanigans that happened that month. But regardless of the circumstances of its origin, Sion certainly wasn't disappointed in the result. While Ospyre can have a bit of an attitude, her sheer endurance makes her invaluable, whether in a battle or just being set to tasks to help around the house. She typically follows things all the way through, not stopping until whatever she's doing is truly done. The first thing Sion did when his egg hatched was, of course, to look up information on the species. Upon learning that the final evolution was called by the rather underwhelming name of "Talonflame", he decided his would have a more fitting one.

Sion inherited Zu from Saber when she left Johto. For better or worse, Zu came with something of a built-in attitude, having considerable arrogance and a tendency to pick fights. Shortly after joining the team she tried to pick on River, which resulted in River pranking her right back, and nearly sparking a rivalry had Sion not promptly separated the two. Whether Zu's attitude is in part due to having lost her original trainer Sion couldn't say, but he does what he can to try to get her to behave, especially around those of his party who are likely to retaliate. Interestingly enough, though, Jina has taken to helping keep Zu in line at times with his ice attacks, much to Sion's surprise. Saber named Zu after a dragon from Sumerian legend, which may or may not have led to her arrogant personality.

Bedivere is Ruby's offspring, and like his mother is quite tough and durable. A good, reliable fighter... as long as the weather isn't too cold out, at least. Saber named Bedivere after one of her knights.

Notes: When in a town Sion usually works at the pokémon center for something between 5-6 hours a day (depending on how early he started/how soon Ryner and Dusk force him to stop) five days a week, typically totally 27 hours a week. A large portion of the time he doesn't spend working is spent training, often up to eight hours a day (if Dusk and Fio let him), with the few waking hours not spent working or training used for research and a handful of necessary tasks.
