While I realize that the mystery of the so-called 'bloobers' is probably foremost in peoples' minds at the moment, but I thought it might be interesting to consider something else for a while. Namely, just what sort of worlds does everyone come from? Do they have technology and devices similar to this one, or something different altogether? What about things such as magic? Are there many countries, or just a few? And so on.

Share as much or as little as you'd like; I for one would be curious to hear it.

The magic. From what I understand, most technology is built from the same underlying principles, but magic seems to vary widely from world to world.

That's not surprising. Considering [tch] science seems to be a constant everywhere and yes [Denzel presses his glasses on.] I've noticed that as well that magic varies from world to world. Each with their own principles.

Where I'm from magic can do ANYTHING! Why it could make another species the dominant life! Why you could switch bodies with someone else!

It could make it rain- DUCKS! Or even make two-plus-two equal -FISH!

Oh? But just how would it do that, precisely?

In my world, magic is a matter of learning to perceive and then manipulate certain energies that permeate the world.

By several years of training; first, an extensive period of meditation and mental exercises in order to awaken the part of the brain capable of perceiving the energy we use for magic. Then, learning and perfecting use of one or more spells, which requires first fully understanding the spell, then learning the technique and mental discipline to correctly execute it. It typically takes two to three years from the time someone first begins learning to use magic to being capable of using their first spell.

Jeepers, that's a long time! But makes sense I suppose. After all, it's not like I didn't study magic myself for a long time before trying to attain it.

What do you mean by 'the technique', mmm? The correct motions?

That's a part of it, yes. There are particular motions required to direct the energy used for a spell into the correct pattern, as well as an incantation and particular mental focus in order to shape and activate it. If any one of those elements is missing, casting a spell would be impossible.
