[Route 29] Video/Action - Ecruteak City

While I realize that the mystery of the so-called 'bloobers' is probably foremost in peoples' minds at the moment, but I thought it might be interesting to consider something else for a while. Namely, just what sort of worlds does everyone come from? Do they have technology and devices similar to this one, or something different altogether? What about things such as magic? Are there many countries, or just a few? And so on.

Share as much or as little as you'd like; I for one would be curious to hear it.

Well...the world and time I came from is also a little bit behind the times compared to this one, but I'll explain as best as I can. Humans don't have devices like this, though similar ones do exist in the Spirit World. As for magic, some humans can have abilities to manipulate their spirit energy in different ways, but that's not really magic. Spirit beings like myself can manipulate their energy however they are shaped and demons--well--demons can do so much more than that.

Spirit World? A world separate from that of humans, I take it?

That's right, there's the Human World, Spirit World and the Demon World. The Human World lies in the middle, Spirit World is on top and Demon World is on the bottom. Needless to say, their names are fairly obvious to the contents of those worlds. When humans die, we bring them to the Spirit World so they can go to the afterlife.

[As time goes on she's gotten more comfortable with admitting this upfront, hence the casual explaining tone.]

Though lately the barrier between the demons and the humans has thinned and they've started to live a little more harmoniously. Humans are slowly learning about the Spirit World as well.

The afterlife? Does that mean their souls remain somewhere in the Spirit World?

*it makes him imagine it gradually becoming overcrowded while the others' populations shrink....*

Paradise is...[she frowns, looking as though she's trying her best to describe it, but--] escorts of souls like me aren't allowed into paradise, and the road is long, but yes I would say that it's still located in the Spirit World. Unless they're registered to be reborn, I suppose, but that's not my area.

That sounds like a rather complicated system...

Oh, yes, we're constantly busy in the Spirit World, so much paperwork to process and schedules to keep. But we do our best! And there hasn't been an error in the system since a few years ago. [And that error was Yusuke committing the stupid act of saving someone that wasn't going to be harmed anyway at the cost of his own life. Very unexpected, very ahead of his schedule.]

*well, he can imagine that kind of paperwork, but the idea of what amounted to gods doing it clashes with his understanding of the world quite a bit...*

I suppose it is a strange idea for humans, they all have their own version of the afterlife. What's yours, if you don't mind my asking?

I couldn't say. There's certainly plenty of theories ranging from some sort of "heaven" to reincarnation, but no one's ever been able to prove any of them. Or disprove them, for that matter.

*isn't actually being honest, but, well, there's some things he'd just rather keep to himself, and he is a good liar...*

Well...I suppose not everyone is meant to know anyway. [He is pretty good at the lying thing, she didn't catch anything at all.] Even me, I only know a little bit about the version of the after life other cultures have and I've met their escorts a couple of times, rather eclectic bunch.

You mean there are different possibilities even within your world?

That's right, different cultures have a different version of the afterlife and different ways a soul reaches their destination. The most popular and familiar to humans is "Heaven" which is governed by a single god, his human avatar, and beings known as "angels." I've never met God or Jesus--the human avatar--personally, but they're very powerful and I hear they're very kind and forgiving as well.

It sounds silly, doesn't it? That we have all these different afterlives for people? Well...humans are a fascinating bunch of paradoxes and we are all sure that there's a place for them once they've passed on.
